I put this list of links together for my own use, as I shop for items to complete my original art collection. I am in the process of grading each site, for my own purposes. A site's grade reflects how useful the site is to me personally, and will be of use to you only if your collecting goals are similar to mine.

When reviewing a site with art for sale, I was looking at VARIETY, ART QUALITY, ART QUANTITY, NAVIGATION, DOWNLOAD TIME, LINKS, and OVERALL USEFULNESS for my personal needs. The key at the bottom of this page tells you a little more about those traits.

Most of the comments reflect my most recent review of these sites, which was a while ago. Now that my art collection's complete, I don't go trolling the 'net for art very much. If you find that my description is no longer accurate, please e-mail me and I'll be happy to re-review a site.

Albert Moy's Online Original Art Gallery Albert Moy has been dealing in art for years, and has a great selection of what seems to be mostly hand-picked art. You won't find piles of five dollar pages, but you will find dozens of REALLY nice pages of art.
Most of the art is Silver Age to present, but you will also find a few older gems as well. He has a nice selection of comic art, strip art, and other illustrations and paintings, in a very easy to navigate site.

7 		All-Star Auctions Although All-Star specializes in auctions, they do have some items for sale at their website. What they lack in quantity, they more than make up for in quality. On my last visit, I found Kirby pages from Avengers #1 and X-Men #2, a breathtaking Kubert Our Army at War cover, and an Infantino Star Wars cover, and even a few Frazetta paintings!

8 		Anthony's Collectibles Literally hundreds of pages of artwork for sale by Anthony Snyder, mostly Silver Age to present. Site is easy to navigate, with all art listed alphabetically by artist. The only drawback is that a busy background makes the type a little tough to read.
I am really happy with a couple art portfolios I bought from Anthony.

5 		ArtGuy On eBay he's ArtGuy. In real life, he's Hugo Brache, and he's got some great art for sale. Another site that lists art by character rather than by artist.

3 		Artwork World Fredericksburg Books, selling hundreds of pieces of original comic art, browseable by artist. New pages are clearly labeled as "new" to the site, making subsequent visits a breeze. Generally bronze age art to present. The site also has strip art, prints, and other art for sale.

0 		Basement Comics Art For Sale This site claims to have art from Cavewoman and other Basement Comics series. On my most recent visit, all I found was prints, but no original art.

9 		Black Line Fever Nothing here but GREAT art. Here you can even find those artists who rarely show up for sale, like Dave Stevens, Jim Steranko, Matt Baker, Mike Golden (or "Micheal", as it's misspelled on the website), Marshall Rogers and lots more. If you're looking for absolutely top quality art, and you're willing to pay for it, this is a good start. The last couple times I called them, regarding a piece they were offering in San Diego, my calls were not returned.

0 		Bud Plant Comic Art Great online catalog of art items. No original art, but lots items for the discriminating collector. If you like the works of Frazetta, Disney, Barks, Crumb, Varga, Giger, or other top quality artists in the field, then this site deserves a visit. BEWARE!!! This is one of those annoying sites that makes it nearly impossible to use your browser's "back" button to escape it.

0 		Comic Art & Graffix Gallery Richard Halegua has been a comic art dealer for years. This web site has lots of art, and mostly from the golden age through silver age. A few minutes with this site and you'll see why it's won the awards it has. This site also links to the RedBeard's Book Den site, featuring comics, cards, books and wines. It appears, however, that this site is rarely updated (a "news flash" about the death of Shoe creator Jeff MacNelly has been there for months.) As of November, 2000, there is a promise that the artwork portion of the site will be updated by October, 2000. Yeah, right.

4 		Comic Link You'll find mostly top quality pieces from the Golden through Silver Age here. It's a shame that they are in order by character, rather than artist. As of July, 1999, there was a nice Kirby Boy's Ranch page there, which still had not sold by September, 2000.

1 		Cosmic Odyssey A collector has furnished us with this gallery featuring primarily Silver Surfer, Green Lantern, Green Goblin and Hellboy. The site also features links to other original art sites. No art for sale here. This is a Tripod site, meaning you have to put up with numerous annoying pop-up banners. And it hasn't been updated since 2001, so why waste your time?

4 		Dave Karlen Original Art Hundreds of pieces of art for sale, including some great Silver age art by greats like Ross Andru and Joe Kubert. It just doesn't get any easier to navigate than this: a single page, with the art alphabetized by artist last name. None of the art is thumbnailed, so the page loads really fast, and with a single click you can get a picture of the art you're interested in.

0 		Got Super Powers? The best name I've seen yet for a comic art site! It's got a great animated Madman doing a dance, and hundreds of pages on display. Most of the display items are not for sale, but as with any art gallery it's worth spending some time just looking around. And can I just say, "KABUKI COVER KABUKI COVER KABUKI COVER!"? Check it out!

10 		Graphic Collectibles Saigerties, NY-based Graphic Collectibles has been in the original comic art field for more than 20 years. This used to be an exceptionally well designed site. Unfortunately, the art is alphabetized by artist's first name rather than last name. Highllights from my most recent visit: A Smith page from Conan #1, a Gibbons cover from Martha Washington, and true greats like Reed Crandall, Wally Wood, Harvey Kurtzman, Jack Kirby and more!

8 		Monster's Collectibles Several dozen pieces of art for sale, from Golden Age to present. An easy to navigate site, with a great picture of a dog chewing on a copy of Suspense #3! A Kirby/Colletta Thor page, a Wally Wood Mad page, a Matt Baker good girl page... Some delicious stuff here! Hope the dog doesn't get ahold of the art, too!

8 		RomitaMan Original Art Romitaman claims to be the world's number one Spider-man fan, and I haven't heard anybody dispute that. Check out this site for loads of art featuring everybody's favorite web-slinging wall crawler. Romitaman has pages for sale, and is also looking for Spidey art from Amazing #1-297.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of items they have are prints and "signed collectibles", NOT original art. A very busy site that can be difficult to navigate. Choose "site map", then select "artists & art".

9 		Tri-State Original Art Several dozen quality pages of art, mostly Bronze Age to present. I've only bought from them once, but they were very professional. I'm very happy with the Starlin Captain Marvel piece they sold me.

Here is how I graded these sites.
VARIETY:
Gold, Silver, Bronze, Modern

ART QUALITY:
A = Almost all exclusively hand-picked, museum-quality pieces.
B = Some top-quality pieces (splashes and/or covers by top-name artists), mixed with other lesser-quality pieces.
C = Some big names, but generally not the finest work of those artists, mixed with some less popular artists.
D = Mostly lesser known artists, few if any of the stars.
F = Generally ordinary pages from rarely-requested artists.

ART QUANTITY:
A = 200 or more pieces of art for sale.
B = 50-199 pieces of art for sale.
C = 10-49 pieces of art for sale.
D = 1-9 pieces of art for sale.
F = No art for sale at all.

NAVIGATION:
A = Exceptionally easy to find what you're looking for.
B = With little effort, you can find what you want
C = Average navigational ease, but perhaps one or two things that make it a little difficult to find what you want.
D = Difficult to find what you're looking for.
F = This grade is reserved for those damned sites that trap you, so that you cannot escape with your "back" button.

DOWNLOAD SPEED:
A = Mostly text-based, few if any scripts that will slow down loading time.
C = Average download time.
F = Very slow to download. Often heavily graphics-intensive, sometimes using Flash or Java scripts that slow the time it takes to view a page's content.

LINKS
Y = Site has links to other original art sites.
N = Site has no links to other original art sites.

USEFULNESS
Overall usefulness to me, as I shop for art. On a scale of 1-10, the odds that I'll find something to add to my own collection.
